Greenstone Recommends for Autumn

We’ve had our first hot chocolates and have even spotted mince pies and advent calendars in the shops, it’s officially Autumn!

Here is a round-up of what Greenstone are waiting to curl up with as we start thinking about getting cosy.

Laura

To read:
I didn’t get chance last autumn so I’m determined to indulge in a very seasonal read of Laurie Gilmore’s The Pumpkin Spice Café this year. I've been admiring beautiful copies with pumpkin sprayed edges on TikTok!

I’m also making time for Chris Whitaker’s All The Colours of The Dark after reading some incredible reviews and really loving my previous read of his, We Begin At The End.

The new Freida McFadden The Boyfriend is also waiting in my Amazon basket.

To Watch:
I completely binged Nobody Wants This recently - one of the best on-screen kisses I’ve seen in ages! I’m really looking forward to the new series of Heartstopper on Netflix as well, Nick and Charlie have my whole heart.

I’ve been waiting for the whole series of Slow Horses to release on Apple TV as I'll want to watch the whole season in one go. Mick Herron's Jackson Lamb is one of my favourite characters!

I’ve also earmarked the In Vogue: The 90s docu-series on Disney+ as one to watch and indulge my 90s obsession with Kate Moss and all things fashion and pop culture.

To Listen:
I am about halfway through The Lady Vanishes podcast which has me completely gripped! I’m quite glad to be coming to this late, it started in 2019, as I’m not sure I would have been able to bear the suspense of this true crime investigation unfolding in real time.

I also need to catch up on one my favourites How To Fail with the brilliant Elizabeth Day, in particular the Kate Winslet, Elif Shafak and Rupert Everett episodes.

Tanera

To read:
Several trusted reader friends have highly recommended Alison Espach’s The Wedding People, so that is next on my list and I’m hoping to sit and savour it.

I’ve also just bought a beautiful hardback copy of Gillian Anderson’s Want, which will be something of a non-fiction palette cleanser for me to dip into between fiction reads.

And finally, Andrea Mara’s Someone in the Attic: I’ve not read Andrea Mara before but the premise of this really stood out to me, and I’ve not read a really good thriller in a little while.

To watch:
I’m seeing Nobody Wants This everywhere at the moment and cannot wait to have an evening to myself to indulge in it.

I’m also keen to watch both the drama (Monsters) and documentary about the Menendez brothers, which I think will make for difficult but fascinating viewing.

I’ve recently finished The Perfect Couple which was brilliantly compulsive viewing, and that intro dance is still playing on loop in my mind!

To Listen:
I’ve got a couple of audiobooks on the go at the moment ,both non-fiction listens: the first is a re-listen of Invisible Women by Caroline Criado-Perez. Its such an important read/listen about the deeply ingrained gender bias in today’s society – its shocking but brilliant.

I’m also listening to Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker: I’ve never been a great sleeper and am always interested in the science of it!
