Greenstone’s Summer Holiday Recommendations

If the English summer ever decides to put in an appearance, or you have decided to get on a plane in search of some sunshine, we know you’ll be browsing the airport bookshops to make that all-important purchase – a holiday read!

Or you might be sheltering from the never-ending rain inside at home and if so, looking for something to listen to or watch curled up on the sofa.

Here is a round-up of what Greenstone are waiting to indulge in over the summer holidays.

To read:
My TBR is towering but there a few titles at the top of the list.  Talking At Night by Claire Daverley, Experienced by Kate Young and two sequels – The Next Mrs Parrish by Liv Constantine and A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas (I know, this is well overdue!)

In non-fiction, recommended to me recently was Untangled: Guiding Teenage Girls Through the Seven Transitions to Adulthood by Lisa Tamour - I need all the advice I can get!

To Watch:
I know I’m not alone in waiting for the second half of Bridgerton to drop on Netflix! Penelope and Colin’s story was my favourite in the Julia Quinn series. I’ve also seen Brothers and Sisters has landed on Disney+ so if we hit a rainy spell, I’d love to have a nostalgic rewatch of this series, I was obsessed with the Walker family! I also want to watch the documentary I Am: Celine Dion on Amazon Prime as I think this is going to be a powerful, moving watch.

To Listen:
I’ve just downloaded the BBC Sounds podcast The Six Billion Dollar Gold Scam – I love true crime and anything with scams so this sounds right up my street! Also in my audio library is the Audible Original Geneva, by Richard Armitage, I’m so pleased he’s narrating as well.

To read:
I’ve been waiting for a free weekend to indulge in Go As A River by Shelley Read. I think this is going to be one to really savour. Also on my list is Strange Sally Diamond by Liz Nugent. I watched it win Irish Crime Novel of The Year  at the Irish Book Awards last year and has come highly recommended. I’m a big Paige Toon fan and I’m really looking forward to Seven Summers as I know this will be complete escapist joy, perfect for summer.

To watch:
I am itching to watch the Colleen Hoover world come to life in the form of the It Ends With Us adaptation in cinemas in August. And of course Bridgerton which I have been saving to watch in one go, so haven’t yet seen any of the episodes.

To Listen:
I have just re-downloaded Audible in order to listen to Ultra-Processed People by Chris van Tulleken. I’m slightly nervous of getting into it as I suspect it will put me off the majority of my diet…I’ve also been enjoying The Write and Wrong podcast recently, hosted by Jamie Greenwood, not least because of Greenstone author Emma Steele’s recent guest appearance, talking about her debut novel The Echoes Of Us.
